Limelight

47 West 20th Street · Flatiron, Manhattan40.7397° N / 73.9924° W

Overview

Club housed in a deconsecrated Gothic Revival church, associated with the Club Kids and later house and techno nights.

Set inside the former Episcopal Church of the Holy Communion — a Gothic Revival landmark of 1844–45 designed by Richard Upjohn — Limelight opened in November 1983 under Peter Gatien, with a star-studded opening hosted by Andy Warhol. It is remembered for its architecture and its association with the Club Kids scene of the late 1980s and 1990s, and for house, techno, and industrial nights across several intermittent runs. The landmarked building has since held retail and other uses.
